Frequently Asked Questions:
What if I’ve never rowed before?
No experience, no problem! ODURC is geared towards introducing the sport of rowing to young adults who have never stepped foot into a boat. A good majority of our rowers have little to no experience in a boat. Our coach is qualified to teach you everything from technique to power.
What are the fitness requirements? Rowing is very rigorous sport, but there isn’t a set fitness requirement to join the club. Training and practices will get you into top shape to compete against schools in the area. You will be required to pass a swim test before you are allowed to practice on the water.
How much does it cost to join?
Club members are required to pay dues at the Student Recreation Center on campus. Dues cost $150 per semester and the team uniform costs $75. Dues cover travel costs, food, and other miscellaneous boat maintenance costs.
What time does practice start?
ODURC practices 5 days a week from 5-7am.
What if I have an 8am class. Will practice conflict with this?
Absolutely not! Boats are back on the dock by 7am. You will have plenty of time to go home, grab a shower, and make it to class with time to spare
.
Where do we practice? ODURC practices at Lakewood Park, which is about a ten minute drive from campus. If transportation is an issue, we would be more than happy to set up a carpool for you.
